On Boxing Day I walked down to the frostbitten Soviet Memorial in Treptow, its scale and the scale of the events that it commemorates lend perspective. Just on the other side of the line of the wall, it has always fascinated me that this “tomb of the unknown rapist” continues to be visited, Russian is often heard but generally it is a quieter place than the Holocaust memorial, which has become very much a tourist attraction.
