Last night was Tom’s birthday and a bunch of us went to the Kiez Bingo at SO36. Something of an institution, this was my first visit and the last bingo evening till October.
The Kiez Bingo Ballet, complete with pyramidical hats, treated us to a dance number and Mary de Mol and Kitty Carell spat out the numbers with such velocity that at times it felt like a weird accountancy lesson. Ritual humiliations were dished out with the prizes donated by local businesses, all in a spirit of fun and all proceeds went to a Heiligerdam protest group.
Tom won a minature vacuum cleaner. I won free entry to the club for a year. Later the police conducted raids against a number of anti-G8 organisations.
